The Lr4 authentication server is still working as far as I know, when I upgraded my computer last year it worked fine so that I could upgrade to CC, I had to do that since Lr4 doesn't support my 5K monitor, and you need a magnifying glass to read the text. If the authentication server vanishes then they will have to deal with that, since the customer is right to expect his software to keep working. A customer will expect to be able to keep moving the software to new hardware, or otherwise reinstall the software and for it to work. This is an issue for companies that sell perpetual licenses to software, and require authentication. I have seen examples of where they have pointed users of older than CS2 to upgrade to that version, rather than trying to deal with older versions.

That server failed, and due to the expense of rebuilding it Adobe simply set up a new download with a freely available key. So my question is this: is there any way that I can look in the Lightroom program and see what license/serial number it's using? I don't pirate software, but I honestly have no idea where it came from and I'm kind of curious at this point (plus, I can never transfer or reinstall it until I figure this out.The only Adobe product that I am aware of that no longer has a authentication server operating is Photoshop CS2. I hate the idea of paying $10 every month for a product that I (somehow) own, so I did a Time Machine restore and Lightroom 5 is back and working. Recently I wiped my hard drive in an attempt to help it move a little faster and when I reinstalled the CS6 Master Collection, there was no Lightroom 5 and no evidence of it ever being licensed to me on my Adobe account (and I had Adobe tech support check my other email accounts to see if I'd registered under a different address nothing.) I thought it showed up as a sort of "side-car" app along with the Master Collection (even though it's not officially part of it) but it's been there for a few years at any rate and I used it to prepare photos for shows, so it's approved and running on my machine. Four years ago I interned with Adobe and had the option to purchase products with the employee discount (this was right when CC was introduced and we could still buy software instead of subscribing.) I picked up the CS6 Master Collection but didn't bother with Lightroom (because, at the time, I figured I was getting Photoshop and that was just better, right?)Īnyway, I've somehow got Lightroom 5 on my computer, and I honestly don't remember where it came from.
